In Search of a Midnight Kiss

A charismatic blend of Wong Kar Wai, Kevin Smith and Richard Linklater by upcoming indie sensation Alex Holdridge, In search of a Midnight Kiss exploits anxious souls, like many of us, who trouble through crushed hopes, lost faith, loneliness and inevitable disaster and set backs in our lives trying to clinch onto a wish of a better tomorrow.
Set in the City of Angels, it tells a aspiring writer who dread through a year of failures and misery decided to spend the remaining hours of New Year’s Eve on a internet blind date instead of being alone. At the end of the night, he grasp the bittersweet moment he shared with the girl and restore his faith in life.
Beautifully shot in crisp black and white picture with occational use of photgraphic backdrop, it is vividly moving, brutally honest and suave with a touch of crude humour. This one is ground breaking and has nothing like a cheesy flick yet deserves general liking!

Ultimate lullaby with Iron & Wine

Samuel Beam has such exquisite talent in folk music making that elegantly ensure easy listening. The use of finger plucked acoustic guitar paired with his gentle lilting voice has created a formula to produce some ultimate bedtime songs. Perhaps classy in the stage name of Iron & Wine, his music is no less than an astounishing craft that is absolutely pleasing to your ears and soul before drifting you into dreamland.

The Sea & The Rhythm remains my favourite ending to my hectic day while Naked As We Came start off my morning with a merry mood. Always subtle and refreshing.

Explosions in the Sky

Explosions in the Sky settles among the modern greats of instrumental rock with seamless dynamic play. Their prowess ventures of human emotions with their subtle tunes takes prisoner of your heart and soul. Every song ends like fireworks finale, dramatic, emotive and melodic. I love how I was lost in the psychedelic seven heavens of the beautifully crafted music of Explosions in the Sky. There is no need for lyrics, everything else flows in the delicate crisp of mind blowing tunes, complex but unpretentious.

Paris, Je t’aime

It’s those little love stories that we facinates and in the romantic city of Paris, 21 directors told theirs. Paris, Je t’aime take us to a stroll through a gamut of emotions in 18 short films. It is love in many guises and ellaborated with such beauty. At times, melanchony, bittersweet, provocative, witty, poignant, silly and fanciful.

Emmy the Great is Great!

In the stage name of Emmy the Great, Emma Lee Moss strums guitar and sings lovely little songs with her soaring vocals. She delivers a whole summer of love in her anti-folk heartrending poetry. This English darling will be on my playlist for the rest of the many months to come singing me stories every night with her songs. She is to wait for the released of her debut album but there’s no way she will be overlooked. As for now here’s from the Black Cab Sessions, she sings Two Steps Forward, one that I’m really addicted to-

I’m Not There

It blows my mind and it was the first class film experience I have demanded. A biopic masterpiece puzzled out by the mischievious visionary in the name of Todd Haynes that illustrates an elusive American icon in true style. It took six individuals to journey through the life and times of a mythical Bob Dylan and his music. Every six of them is a potrait of Bob Dylan in a series of shifting personae as poet, prophet, fake, star of electric, outlaw, rebel, each has different names, diffent professions, and each is Bob Dylan weaved together in the works of Cate Blanchett, Richard Gere, Christian Bale, Ben Wishaw, Marcus Carl Franklin and the late Heath Ledger.

It is cynical, poetic, provotive and unconventional, I’m Not There is a revolution to biographical motion picture. The film is essentially itself, a Bob Dylan song, one of his best.

Scousers Zutons!

The people of Liverpool are known as the Scousers and for their distinctive accent spoken with a range of fast, rising and falling tones. This has led them being dubbed as the “Sing-song Scousers” and indeed they live up full to their reputation.

It was back in the 60s when the Beatles, the band from Liverpool took the world of music by storm. Til this day, the phenomenon musical scene in this cultural city of Merseyside has yet to fade. It has bred some of the greatest musical talents over the years after the legendary Beatles including the likes of Echo & the Bunnymen, the La’s (originally wrote and sing There She Goes), Ian Broudie, The Teardrop Explodes, Pete Wylie, Death or Alive, The Farm…and talent aside you might be surprise to see Atomic Kitten on the list.

The Zutons is the recent uprising indie band to grace the colourful history of Merseyside music scene. Their music is difficult to define but their talent is spot on definitely. The Liverpool band are fronted by main man vocalist Dave McCabe, alongside orignal members Boyan Chowdhury, Russell Pitchard and Sean Payne. The only lady, Sean Payne’s girlfriend Abi Harding was a later addition to the lineup, after her occasional performance of Saxphone with the band delighted the others and being popular among the crowd. A mix combination of Jazzy, physcedelic, punk-funk and the suspicious quantities of Merseybeat in the form of broken-hearted rock ballads to catchy melodic pop from the belting soul vocals of Dave McCabe and in the addition of slinky saxphonist Abi Harding, the Liverpool lads is tenacious, quaint and quirky. These scousers are simmering, demanding notice and smoking.

The Zutons have released two studio albums under producer Ian Broudie with the third one due in June. My choice to share you folks here is ‘Valerie‘ from their second album- Tired of Hanging Around, of which Amy Winehouse also did a cover version as well as James Morrison who sang it live.

Let’s Go Keys!

Dan Auerbach, left (vocals and guitars) and Patrick Carney (drums and percussions)

Gotta get to know The Black Keys, the wickedly magnifincent two-piece band of blues-rock in low fidelity formed by the Akron Ohio duo, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney. Their stylish blues-rock dabble in funk and psychedelia is vintage late 60s to the uttermost and always so much more to my liking. It is absolutely exciting to think that Cream has somehow survived in the music of The Black Keys.

Their stripped-down dirty sound is raw and thrilling in the blend of passionate thrashing drums and gritty, riff heavy guitar and their vocals in Auerbach has got an extraordinary powerful, rusty voice made perfect for blues-rock. The Black Keys is more than just rock n’ roll, the duo is the one singular answer that illustrate the art of blues-rock in sheer brilliance and class with Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top and Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant all claiming to be the fans of the band.

I know a place where the sun hits the sky!

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/plJ8AWJExdE&hl=en

I was drawn to immediate attention of that visitbritain advertisement on the telly when I heard the song. It brought me straight back to 1997, when Britpop was bursting at the seams with the likes of Oasis, Blur, Pulp, The Verve and Suede. Supergrass emerged among these established names during the high peak era of Britpop in the 90s and continue to be influencial at present to many other British new rising bands such as the Artic Monkeys. Nevermind it was something from the last decade, ‘Sun Hits The Sky’ remains one of the very best from Supergrass. Afterall, it was simply the ideal song for that advert.

Tilly and the Wall is Twee!

Tilly and the Wall, twee as fuck! You got these cute girls with heart melting smiles, singing you hand clapping, foot stomping catchy songs of cheeky tunes; it’s what I call gay! I mean merry fucking gay, happy, gay!

All the way from Nebraska, USA, Tilly and the Wall is addictive happy pills formed by three birds and two lads and among them a married couple. Yet another band without a drummer, they got a tap dancer to work out the percussion instead. It might be an unusual feat, but Jamie Williams’ tap dancing has infused such energetic feel to their joyful folk-pop; often marred with the beat of hand claps, shakers and tambourine, it works so fine that I’m so tempted to tap me feet every time I hear them songs. A wide range vocals from Neely Jenkins, Kianna Alarid, and Derek Pressnall which interchange to take lead and back up in different songs gives Tilly and the Wall a multi-dimensional interpretation.

Awaiting their third studio album due to be released in June, their sophomore album Bottoms of Barrels is still making most of it to lure all twee lovers. Here’s one popular favourite, Bad Education :
