Tilly and the Wall is Twee!
All the way from Nebraska, USA, Tilly and the Wall is addictive happy pills formed by three birds and two lads and among them a married couple. Yet another band without a drummer, they got a tap dancer to work out the percussion instead. It might be an unusual feat, but Jamie Williams’ tap dancing has infused such energetic feel to their joyful folk-pop; often marred with the beat of hand claps, shakers and tambourine, it works so fine that I’m so tempted to tap me feet every time I hear them songs. A wide range vocals from Neely Jenkins, Kianna Alarid, and Derek Pressnall which interchange to take lead and back up in different songs gives Tilly and the Wall a multi-dimensional interpretation.
Awaiting their third studio album due to be released in June, their sophomore album Bottoms of Barrels is still making most of it to lure all twee lovers. Here’s one popular favourite, Bad Education :
